What is the point?

Well I don't really know what to say this time, so much has happened since my last post. My laptop was stolen while I was at the dream center. The dream center used the DCFS to kidnap my kids, then tossed me out on the street and now the dream center is refusing to allow me on the property to eat. I thought this was a christian place meant to help people but it's not, it's just a cult out for money and building another wacko texas deal. If I posted earlier about how great it was was, that was before my horror. They have my kids and I am unable to get them back. I am gagged and muzzled by these cretons and when I tell people the truth, the dream center makes me out to be a liar. You really, REALLY have to be inside the walls to see that I am telling the truth. 4 months of the sidewalk......I am so depressed right now. I am at my lowest since I was in China. this all makes me think being abused over there was better than what I am going through; my husband told me leaving him would be a nightmare...the dream center and DCFS prooved him right. I would go back imediately if I could have the kids back. Sometimes the worst situation possible is not the worst untill you muck with it trying to get something better. Live in a crappy roach infested apartment is better than the streets, being beatten everyday is better than loosing my kids and living on the streets worrying about them and not able to do anything for yourself. when you need something now and no one is there to help, then what is the point? Everyone here seems to need help, but get no answers.....useless, and now filled with more hopelessness than ever in my life. I have turned to prostitution to survive, something I had once vowed never to do, but there is no way to live without money and in Los Angeles you have 3 groups of people: 1) the rich celebrities 2) the illegal mexicans and 3) the millions of homeless people left for dead.

I once thought homeless people got that way because of drugs and alcohol. Now I see they turned to drugs and alcohol because it is easier to face the reality in a drug induced dream than to face hunger and no place to sleep and no one cares daily reality.

Soon to be Homeless; Struggling

I am 21 yrs old with Scoliosis and depression and anxiety. I have filed for SSI and I'm suppose to hear back from them within the next month or two whether I will get it or not. I'm unemployed and soon to be homeless. I don't think my landlord will wait another month for the SSI's decision. I have a dog that I refuse to get rid of so a homeless shelter won't do. I need any advice I can get as to where or how I can get money just to hold him off for a few months before I am completely homeless or if I do not get the SSI.

Once again, if you lost ur job, and can u must apply to unemployment!!! this is important!!! if yr unemployment is finished, u need to apply to "public assitience" in yr area, they will help u with housing, give u foodstamps, health insurance and in most cases u probably quilify for other programs and cash grants, do this and dont delay, u can call 311 in most areas to find out where ur local social services dept is located or call 411 or operator they should have a numbers for u to call..also go to yr local churches, salvation army, they can help with warm clothing, food and in most cases direct u to the right places!!!
now that the holidays are here, there are those that are looking to adopt needy families that need help u can find out thru yr local churches and salvation army
u can also post on craigslist and backpage and anywhere else u can think of
stating that yr a needy family or single mom and need help!!! there are good people out there that will help u!!! the holidays are coming, and its starting to get cold!!! so please, do everything u can to help and empower ur-selves!!!
if u can try and find housing even if its one room, if u can offer to pay something thats fine if not offer to help out in exchange for housing!!!
Dont delay putting off another day, with out getting the help u need!!!!

About jasminiqua

Hello, Ive been on SSDI for a few years now and I have been volunterring the last year in the Human Services Sector.  A way of giving back to my community.  Now I am ready to make some money at doing this.  Not sure where to begin, and concerned about how going back to work will affect some of the very benefits I need still.

In the past as the income goes up the services go down and as we all know sometimes it is devastating.  When one is trying to regain self sustainability things can happen so very fast and send you down the veritabel rabbit hile if you will.

At present I have help with rent, food and medical care.  All of this is extrememly helpful given a limited income.  However, once I begin to work, these services also begin to disappear.  I understand why, what I do not understand is how I should go about this so that I do not lose everything at once.  I am also concerned that if I do not make enough income to pay for full rent and food and medical insurance that I could fall in a pit so to speak.  There was a time in the past when I was working and then got laid off--Thanks to the economic crash!-that I ended up homeless.  Not eligible for community services because income I HAD was over income level.  It seems unless I land a 45k job I will continue to be on the teeter totter edge of facing disaster again.

The biggest concern is that even with this vlounteer work "test of work ability" as I call it, I have continued to be ill and limited in my consistent work attendance.  Sure with volunteer work there is more flexibility, but a paid job is not so flexible.

Dazed and confused about returning to the workforce, Jasmine

Please Help Me, I'm ill

About Please Help Me, I'm ill

I need help urgently. I have been suffering from Pott’s Spine ( Tuberculosis of Spine ) for last two years which has damaged my vertebrae. Initially my left hand and leg were almost paralyzed due to this disease. After a prolonged treatment, my leg and hand are alright now, but I have become very weak physically and can’t work the way I used to do before; because of the damage to the spine. It has become almost impossible for me to even continue with the medicines as we do not have any money. I experience severe pain in my back on a regular basis, but can’t get it treated. The last time, I went to a doctor; was in the month of October 2009. After that, I have not been able to have a check up, and my situation is deteriorating I have not been able to work for last two years because of limited mobility. Whatever savings we had, were all used up in my medical treatment. I even sold many household items to meet the expenses. Now, we are left with nothing, and are on the verge of starvation. My children have been out of school for last one year. They are losing on education and everything good in life, and I can only see it and die every single moment of my life.  We are ruined completely. I live in a rented accommodation with my wife and children, and it has become almost impossible for me to even pay the rent, thus facing the danger of being homeless.

After attending to me day and night, and running from pillar to post to manage for my medicines and food for all the family members; now my wife has also developed serious medical complications. But, I have not been able to get her any medical treatment. Still, she is the only person who sometimes manages for some money, which has kept us all alive so far.

Since I can’t do a regular job, I want to start a small shop selling household items so that I could feed my family. I would appeal to all the people, who like to help others, to help me and give me and my family another opportunity to survive. I would be really grateful to all those people who would like to extend any kind of help to me. I want just one more opportunity to survive and start the struggle of life once again.

I can send scanned copies of my medical treatment I have received so far, to all the people who want to see the details of my illness. Please send me help to my paypal account : pleasehelpmeiamill@gmail.com  ( under Services tab )

Thanks a lot.

Housing is a human right.  All people need and deserve a safe, decent, affordable place to live.  Housing for everyone is also possible if we can create the political will to make housing for all a priority.

Each year about 17,000 New Mexicans are homeless for at least part of the year.  This includes single adults as well as families with children and unaccompanied youth.  Without homes, these people also lose access to education, regular health care, employment and most of the things that many of us take for granted as part of our every day lives.  Extended homelessness has been shown to lead to early death at an average age of between 42 and 52, due to many untreated chronic health conditions as well as the hardship of living outdoors.

Family of 8 near homelessness

My daughter, her husband, and their 6 children who live in Bellevue, Nebraska will soon be homeless if they don't receive help soon. My daughter has been trying to better herself and her family by attending Bellevue University to earn her bachelors of science degree.
Her husband has been waiting to get accepted for social security disability.
They have 6 children ages ranging from 4 years to 16 years. They are currently living in a three bedroom house in Bellevue that has a bad mold problem that causes the family to get sick a lot. It also has lead paint that has been chipping away.
They have recently received an eviction notice from their land lord and a shut off notice for their utilities. They have tried many agencies (including HPRP) to receive assistance with no success. They have been told that the agencies either don't have funds available for them or that they do not qualify for assistance. If there is ANYONE who can help this family PLEASE contact me.

Eviction Notice

For anyone facing an eviction contact your local DHHS or H.U.D. office and ask for H.P.R.P (Homeless Prevention and Rapid Rehousing) assistance. It is a H.U.D. program designed to help those facing homelessness by paying their rent and utilities.                                                   Visit:  http://www.hudhre.info/HPRP/ for more information

About peterjs

hi there,

peterJ here.  A core story i'm bein' with:

I was homeless in Santa Cruz, CA, USA & doin' what i euphemistically call "unpaid political work"; surviving, building community, sometimes bein' active&engaged.  I had&have family in the San Francisco Bay Area & was involved in going back-and-forth more often.  In the middle nineties, i moved up to San Francisco thinking i would simply be shifting my base & instead of bein' there, i'd be here (SF) & continuing to do much of the same.

I rapidly learned that i lived here now.  I went from bein' homeless & couchsurfing&squating to feeling like the Mission is my home (while continue to couchsurf & squat) even before i was paying rent, to feeling like The Mission is my homeland (before i was living where i am now).

Some of what i'm currently enagage with are:

  • tea / plant-medicine / tea-culture
  • yi jing (I Ching) learning, study, sharing, & reading
  • reading (especially spiritual, practical, science fiction&fantasy, queer, community organizing, anarchist, etc..(to name a few:) )
  • movement / bodywork / energy & internal arts
  • creating & supporting artistic expression

So now i've lived in the same room in an SRO on Valencia Street since August of 2001 (civil calendar).  I have a vibrant web of relationship, interests, spaces, projects, you name it.  I am also struggling with depression, hoarding-and-cluttering, poverty & abuse.

i'm a newbie to AidPage & here to learn&share.  So...

Some current (as of 13July2010 civ cal) needs & problems:

  • more spaces & resources to share (with our (emergent communities) folx)  including¬ limited to:
    • healers&healing (of *all* ways/kinds/flavors/modalities)
    • ?
  • more encouragement & support to receive&give care
    • especially emphasizing
      • selfcare,
      • peercare, &
      • community-based care
    • ?

well, that's a bunch now...

i'll go look & see if i can offer other aidPage folx something...

in dat lovingkindness&

solidarity spirit

About lis613

I'm writing on behalf of my mom and 19 year old sister.  I didn't tell them I'm writing on here.

Thank you in advance for listening.

There's a nightmarish back story dating back many years but I'll just talk about the last several months; starting with today.

My mom is facing eviction any day now.  She had earlier this month to not only come up with $3500 for back rent (and late fees) but also subsidiary income to help her pay rent through May of 2010 when her lease is up.  Not including a deposit and moving expenses since she’ll have to find a new residence.  (which may prove difficult now that there’ll be  an eviction formerly on her record).

Long story short, last year my mom was renting a condo a 2/2 for $1000/mo.  Living paycheck to paycheck as so many do.  When a major (interior) flood occurred damaging several walls, ruining furniture etc... She immediately contacted the owner who refused to do anything about it other than to contact her "go to" handyman.  This gentleman never showed up.  Weeks went by before he finally made an appearance, and he wasn't prepared for the job.  He didn't have the right tools he said, and despite my moms many complaints to the owner... the handyman never came back, mold grew and both her and my sister started to complain of constant sore throats and headaches causing my mom to vacate the premises on a whim.

That desperation led her to quickly find another roof over  their heads which brought them  to where they are now, a 2/2 apartment, but the rent here is $1180/month due to the decline in housing, rental property prices soared.  My sister had just gotten a job and was starting up college majoring in Oncology.

Living here for the past 10 months has been a nightmare for many reasons from loud techno music blaring from the neighbors at all hours which thump through the walls and floors to balls being thrown up against the walls well into the night, complaints about drug use and noise from the parking lot to issues with the physical condition of the apartment since day one.

My mom (as I said) was living paycheck to paycheck before, and now things were even tighter because she wanted my sister to try and hold onto her money for books etc...  I should add that she has no real furniture to speak of.  No bedroom furniture, no bed, no dining room etc...  (Neither does my sister) No cable, no computer or internet.

As she was moving into this new apartment in May of last year, her 19 year old daughter, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer... Dr's immediately told her not to work and that she had to leave school, that stress would be a factor in her recovery.  Shortly after hearing the news... My sister was then diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and the bills started to really add up.  Over the next few months, (as teenagers often do) my sister made a poor decision to ride on the back of a motorcycle, and was in a terrible accident where she lost 25% of her skin, plus many broken bones; a few months after that she had to have a tonsillectomy for fear that a severe infection may cause the cancer to spread further.

My mom of course did what any loving mother would do which is everything in her power to see to it that her daughter was properly cared for.  By the fall of 2009, my mom's insurance costs went up from approximately $240/month out of her paycheck to a whopping $580!!!  On top of this... she had to endure a pay cut, and soon the electricity was being shut off.  (She currently  works at a call center and made a salary plus commission) they recently stopped the commission for all employees.)  As of early 2010, my mom could no longer afford her rent.  She made good faith payments.  A couple hundred here, a few hundred there, but half to three quarters the rent per month wasn't going to cut it for long.

Dr's have put my sister on a very strict diet of organic foods (which is more costly as everyone knows)  She's lost teeth due to the cancer treatments & had dental visits to try and help with that, and still needs frequent tests and hospital visits as well.

My mom is someone with a lot of pride.  She's worked her entire life, and sadly has nothing to show for it.  She's never asked for a handout; in fact she's given to charities when she was homeless just a few years ago.  My mom is a saint, and my sister is a sweetheart not deserving of the life she's been given.  My sister just wants to go to college, and work in the medical field helping others, but due to her illness, she’s not supposed to go to school or work.

I'm practically homeless myself, with no car & suffering with chronic ulcerative colitis and just barely earning enough to eat a meal a day if I'm lucky.  My mom's health at 60 years old is failing.  She can hardly function at work and has no other family nearby or financially in a position to help out.  My mom's car died over 2 years ago, so she has to take several buses a day, walking miles throughout the week with severe arthritis, thyroid disease & bone spurs in her heels with sneakers worn down to nothing, and because of the severity of the situation, my mom denies herself her own medicines (which I try my best to pay for) but she doesn't tell me when she runs out.   Unfortunately she needs to be monitored and her medicines regulated, but she can’t make it to Dr’s appointments the majority of the time, particularly when she needs to see specialists.  My mom has a specific prescription for eyeglasses, but they broke a couple of years ago & we could only afford store bought ready made eyeglasses.  She’s complained about her vision ever since, and it breaks my heart.

Life has been unusually cruel to a person that has done nothing but worked her diligently her entire life and raised a family largely by herself. If anyone deserves a little bit of charity right now, it's her.  I’m asking nothing for myself.  My mom and family means everything to me.  My mom has ‘given’ her entire life. She loves helping others and I know one day dreams of running a non-profit organization to help others in similar situations that she has been (and is in). Some people call that paying it forward, generosity is something we grew up with in our family, but my mom has never asked for anything, which is why I'm writing this without her knowledge. She only knows how to give... even when she has nothing to give.

Thank you for listening.  G-D Bless.
